How to Speed Up My PC and Windows 7 Performance

Hi friends, I started a new blog named 'Tec Glitz' and here I'm going to submit my first article in this blog. Today I thought to share some useful points regarding how to speed up my computer and increase windows 7 performance.

Presently most of the computer users have moved to Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system, but still there are huge amount of computer users who use Windows 7 operating system according to a survey report. So the following article will be useful to all the Windows 7 users. And also I'm going to discuss some important points to boost your personal computer performance too.

Computer performance may go down in following situations

1. When you boot the computer
2. During the normal usage
3. When you shut down the computer

If a PC performance slow down means, we can look into it in two ways

1. Operating system slow performance
2. Computer hardware issue

Most of the computers come with latest hardware equipment. There is a very less chance for PC slow down, because of hardware. So if we fix the operating system issue, then our PC performance will be high. Let's see how to boost Windows 7 performance with some simple tactics.

How to increase Windows 7 performance?

Run disk cleanup

  • Click on Search bar and type 'Disk Cleanup'
  • Now click on it and open Disk cleanup

Disk Cleanup - This tool will delete all unnecessary files and data which is stored in hard disk, such as temporary internet files, thumbnails, debug dump files, etc...

Run Defrag and check disk

You can increase the PC's hard disk performance with this tool. Let's see how to do this process,
  • Right Click on the particular disk partition
  • Now click on Properties
  • Select 'Tools' tab
  • Now click on one of the tool listed below

Diskdefragmentation tool - This tool will align data blocks written on hard disk in order to make them easy to access by operating system.

Error Checking tool - This tool will remove all the bugs from the hard drive to run smoothly. 


Disable all unnecessary visual effect

We all know, Windows 7 operating system comes with some visual effect by default. We can boost Windows 7 performance by disabling these features like Windows Aero, Shadows and Thumbnails. To do this,
  • Right Click on My Computer
  • Select Properties
  • Click on Advanced system settings
  • Now the following window will appear

  • In the above window you can adjust the settings to boost Windows performance.

Remove unwanted startup programs

One of the most and the important way to boost Windows performance is, disable unwanted startup programs. Startup program is run when you login to the system. Take a look on which of the programs should run, when the computer is switched on. By disabling unwanted programs in Startup, you can boost windows 7 performance. To do this,
  • Click on Start
  • Type msconfig and hit Enter
  • Now, in the system configuration windows, click on Startup tab
  • Now remove the programs which are unwanted at the startup

Remove non-use Windows services

When we disable/ remove non-use Windows services, we can boost Windows 7 performance. When we disable this service, system will increase the available RAM memory and CPU. To do this,
  • Type 'Services.msc' in the run prompt and hit Enter
  • Now the services console windows will appear
  • Then select the services that you think it's unwanted
  • Right Click on it
  • Select Properties
  • In the following window we can set the service 'Startup type' to 'Disabled'

Windows 7 operating system allows us to enable/ disable certain windows feature. To perform this action,
  • Click on Control Panel
  • Select Programs and Features
  • Select Turn Windows feature on or off

General tips to increase Windows 7 performance

Use good and trusted anti-virus software

Anti-Virus software is very important to every PC. If we don't use a good and trusted anti-virus, there is a huge chance to get affected from harmful viruses. Windows OS is the most used operating system in the world. Many viruses/ trojans has been created to exploit Windows operating system. So we must use the updated anti-virus to protect our PC and data. If there are no viruses in the PC, Windows will perform at its best.

Use ReadyBoost using pendrive

We can increase the Windows performance by connecting a USB pendrive to Windows computer and turn on ReadyBoost feature. When we use ReadyBoost feature in Windows computer, it will allow the system to make use of speedy storage device as cache memory. So this amazing ReadyBoost feature will improve overall performance of the system.

Use CCleaner software 

CCleaner is a well known software among Windows OS users. CCleaner is a popular software for wiping temporary files and also it can clean private data hides and it consists variety of features to improve Windows performance. So make sure to install this software in your Windows PC to perform well. 

Use the latest device drivers

When we use the latest drivers to all the devices in Windows 7, it will automatically boost Windows performance to high. So always keep the latest drives with all the system devices. 

Reduce the amount of files in the desktop

Do not keep too much files or shortcuts in your desktop. Every shortcut in the desktop costs 20kb in the RAM size. So move all your desktop files to any other disk drive. If your PC desktop consists too many shortcut files, then it will surely effect the speed of PC and Windows performance too.

Upgrade the computer hardware

This is my last tip and the most important one. Mostly all the new computers are manufactured with the latest hardware equipment. but if you are still using the old hardware parts, then it's time to upgrade your computer hardware. If you follow all the above mentioned tips and upgrade the PC's hardware, then you won't ever say 'my computer is too slow'.
